Over the last 18 months, Graven Images has worked with the School of Design at the University of Dundee in a Knowledge Transfer Partnership programme.
The aim of this project was to explore how the design of tools can aid the business and management processes that support design within the company.
The project has led to enhanced knowledge transfer not only within the company, but has also provided a vast amount of teaching materials for the School of Design.
The project is led by Emma Murphy at Graven Images and Professor Tom Inns at the School of Design.
During this project, Emma has also developed a framework for knowledge transfer and knowledge emergence in the creative industries, and a process for developing future tools in creative organisations.
We are pleased that the project will be included an exhibition at the Hong Kong Expo this month as an exemplary model in demonstrating knowledge transfer in practice, and how new knowledge can be created in both academia and industry through a collaborative partnership.

Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project
Lots of our people are graduates of The Glasgow School of Art. Janice Kirkpatrick our co-Director is an Honorary Professor and Governor there. We have a good relationship with the School, and were commissioned to design the campaign literature and promotional items for the Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project.
The primary purpose of the campaign is “to secure the historic interiors of The Glasgow School of Art’s Mackintosh Building and its collections and to enhance access to these internationally important heritage assets for a greater number of visitors.â€
Our scope included the design of campaign folder, literature, exhibition banners and stationery.

As you may have remembered, we announced that we had been commissioned to design the new Tinderbox on Ingram Street…
It is now open!
Which is a good thing because it’s only 100m from our office, and sells beer too.
It still has that Tinderbox feel, but eight years on is quite different from the original.

Lulu, the last part of our project at Tigerlily, Montpelier Group’s boutique hotel in Edinburgh, opened its doors to the public last night. The interior is big wallpaper, oak fielded panels, embossed leather and a Tony Manero dance floor. Some of the Graven team attended the opening last night…we’re still waiting for them to come in to work…
